Since its inception, The University of Dodoma (UDOM) has shown commitment in assuring the quality of its academic programmes towards the production of highly skilled graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the nation and the global community. Initially, the operations of quality assurance at UDOM were under the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor-Academic, Research and Consultancy (DVC-ARC) through the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA) where the Directorate was managed by the Director of Quality Assurance that reported directly to the DVC-ARC.
After the experience of working with the aforementioned quality assurance operational structure and lessons learnt from other higher learning institutions, it was seen prudently that the quality assurance operations include both academic and administrative/support services offered by the University. For that to be realized, since April 2020, the operations of the Directorate of Quality Assurance were placed under the Office of the Vice Chancellor. Such placement was considered strategic to allow for a comprehensive scope of quality assurance operations in all core functions of teaching, research and community services, as well as all supporting functions. Subsequently, the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA) was renamed as “Quality Assurance Unit (QAU)” to be in line with the harmonization of the naming of units that operate under the Office of the Vice Chancellors across universities in the country.
