Welcome Note
The College of Education at the University of Dodoma (UDOM) was officially established in August 2008 with a total of 448 students, 113 academics and 42 administrative staff. The College has continued over time to grow in both numbers of students and staff as well as its academic programme. Currently, the College has a total of 147 staff members whereby 109 are academic staff and 38 are administrative staff members. Also, the College has enrolled about 8000 undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing different programmes. At this level of student enrollment; the College of Education is the largest College at the University of Dodoma.
The College has modern infrastructures such as classrooms, libraries, hostels, playgrounds, and health services that suit the needs of every student in campus. Its environment is designed to promote equal opportunity for all students to pursue their studies smoothly.
College of Education programmes/curriculum emphasizes producing teachers who are well-baked and have undergone the procedures and provisions for the acquisition of knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and skills which will enable them to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school, and the community at large. Graduate educators are also highly needed for the provision of basic teaching knowledge and skills which are lacking with regards to imparting information literacy and lifelong learning to pupils, students, and adults alike, especially in Tanzania and Africa in general. There is also a need to equip graduate teachers with skills that will help them create new strategies to help bring back pupils’ and students’ interest in the classroom and in learning while managing the classroom and learning environment.
College of Education has three (3) Departments:
- Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum studies
- Department of Educational Foundation and Continuing Education
- Department of Educational Management and Policy Studies.
You are all welcome.
