Prof. Godlisten Gladstone Kombe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering at the University of Dodoma. Professor Kombe holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, as well as an M.Sc. in Integrated Environmental Management and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemical and Process Engineering, all from the University of Dar es Salaam. With over a decade of academic and research experience since starting his career, he began as a Research Assistant at the University of Dar es Salaam, focusing on alternative energy projects, particularly in renewable energy sources. He joined the University of Dodoma in 2013, rising from Assistant Lecturer to his current position as Associate Professor.
A distinguished Tanzanian chemical engineer with expertise in energy and the environment, Professor Kombe is a certified expert in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit. His academic credentials are complemented by over a decade of experience in academia, research, and consultancy, contributing significantly to sustainable energy and environmental management. At the University of Dodoma, he teaches subjects such as Energy Storage; Energy Policy Planning and Economics; Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals; Oil and Gas Plant Design; Principles of Enhanced Oil Recovery; Environment and Safety Management; Research Methodology; and Project Management. He has also supervised numerous research projects.
Professor Kombe’s consultancy work encompasses a wide range of EIAs and audits across Tanzania. He has conducted EIAs and audits as a co-consultant for both public and private organizations. His notable assignments include conducting EIAs for various projects, conducting compliance audits, overseeing EIAs for industrial plants, and evaluating the impacts of development projects.
Godlisten G. Kombe has authored over 20 publications to date, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings. His research is dedicated to developing sustainable solutions for biodiesel production from non-edible feedstocks, such as jatropha and algal oils. He has explored various pre-treatment and esterification methods to improve the processing of feedstocks with high free fatty acid content. Additionally, his research includes the co-production of biofuels and biochar through intermediate pyrolysis of agricultural residues and examining the institutional influences on the circular economy in Tanzania, as well as factors influencing eco-industrial development in Africa. Furthermore, Professor Kombe has analyzed the socio-economic and policy aspects of energy implementation in Tanzania, including community perspectives, barriers to participation, and factors influencing industrial development.
In his administrative roles, Professor Kombe has served as the Head of the Department of Petroleum and Energy Engineering, Acting Deputy Principal of the College of Earth Sciences and Engineering, and Dean of the School of Mines and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Dodoma. He has been an active participant in university governance, serving on various boards and committees. Deeply committed to community engagement and outreach, Professor Kombe involves himself in projects that promote environmental sustainability and develop renewable energy solutions in Tanzania. His dedication to his field and his commitment to making a positive impact on society underscore his value as a member of the academic community.
