Prof. Peter L. M. Msoffe, (BVM, MVSc, PhD)

Prof. Msoffe has investigated phenotypes, including immunocompetence and natural disease resistance, in local chicken ecotypes of Tanzania.  He has used microsatellites markers to establish the genetic relatedness of the local chickens in Tanzania. His research has indicated that the local chicken ecotypes in Tanzania that appeared phenotypically different were also genetically diverse. Using this knowledge he tested the potential of the local birds being resistant against Newcastle disease using ND vaccine. Prof. Msoffe has co-authored more than thirty scientific papers in international peer reviewed journals on poultry health and production and the use of genetic markers in assessment of genetic relatedness of animals. Prof. Msoffe has led numerous training workshops both local and international in diverse topics related to public health, animal health and human development. He is a senior academic leader having saved as a Director of Undergraduate Studies for four years and is currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor responsible for Academic, Research and Consultancy at the University of Dodoma in Tanzania.
