Prof. dr. Simon Samwel Msanjila is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Dodoma. He was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals of the United Republic of Tanzania Since October 2017 till January 2022. Prior to this post he served as Deputy Permanent Secretary responsible for Higher Education, Science, and Technology in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and worked for this post from December 2015 till October 2017. At different times he also worked as Deputy Rector – Academic, Research and Consultancy of the College of Business Education, and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Mzumbe University.

Prof. Msanjila has also worked as an external examiner in the area Computer Science at different Universities including the University of Dodoma and Ardhi University in Tanzania; Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology as well as Strathmore University, both in Kenya; and examined MSc. theses for Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa and UNISA of South Africa. He was also the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Information Technology and Business, a journal owned by the North American Institute of Science and Information Technology in Canada; and also participated as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of the Academy of Organizational Behavior Management, published by the International Academy of Organizational Behavior Management (IAOBM). He is currently the associate editor of the journal of ICT Systems which is managed by the University of Dar es Salaam.

Prof. Msanjila has graduated BSc. Computer Science in 2001 from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; MSc. in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management, in 2004 from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands; and PhD in Computer Science in 2009 from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Prof. Msanjila conducts research focusing on the establishment and management of collaborative networks of organizations with particular interests in the application of information management techniques, system development approaches and application of databases in this area. In this area, he focuses on the management of information to facilitate operations conducted in business minded collaborative networks. A fundamental interest is on the management of information to support the semi-automated analysis of rational trust in actors participating in business networks. Before moving to CBE he was coordinating two internationally funded research projects that he won, one funded by the European Commission which is focused on Enhancing Energy Accessibility in through Supportive Collaborative Networks (ENRICH) and another funded by Royal Society of UK which is focused on assessing collaborative sustainability of Water & Sanitations Schemes.

Prof. Msanjila has authored two books titled “On inter-organizational trust engineering in networked collaboration (July 2009)” and “Gaining Insight into Trust Engineering in Networking Business (March 2012)”. He has also published more than 67 papers in journals, as book chapters, and in peer reviewed–book format international conference proceedings in areas related to the following among others: management of inter-organizational trust in collaborative networks, management of inter-organizational networks, information management and databases systems, computer networking, internet and its applications, web-services technology and its application in business environment, modeling and simulation of web-service based business processes, and design of systems for HIV/AIDS advisory service provision. Prof. Msanjila has been involved in reviewing papers in a number of journals, international conferences and book chapters since 2005. In 2009, he was a reviewer of the book titled “Requirement analysis and System design” fourth edition by A. Macsiazk which was published by Pearson publishers in the United Kingdom in 2010. In 2014, he edited for the purpose of internationalizing of the United States version of the book titled: Database Systems – A Practical Approach to Design, Implementation and Management by Thomas Connolly and Caroly Begg, fifth edition of 2012 which was published in January 2015.  Prof. dr. Msanjila has also supervised more than 15 Msc. theses; supervised four PhD students, and examined 4 PhD students. He has externally examined and recommended for PhD award for 4 candidates and he has reviewed and recommended for promotion of 2 candidates to an Associate Professor rank.
