About Mary

Mary Hospicia Kafyome brings over a decade of extensive experience in the field of mass communication, with a particular focus on public relations. She has imparted her knowledge and expertise at prestigious educational institutions in Tanzania, including St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) at the University of Dar es Salaam, and presently at The University of Dodoma.

Currently pursuing her PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Dar es Salaam, Ms. Kafyome is deeply immersed in the academic and professional realms. Her affiliations with esteemed media organizations, such as the Tanzania Media Women Association (TAMWA), Media Institute of Eastern Africa-Tanzania Chapter (MISA-TAN), and the Public Relations Society of Tanzania (PRST), underscore her commitment to the industry.

Notably, in November 2021, Ms. Kafyome assumed the role of Vice President of PRST, demonstrating her leadership capabilities. She has also taken charge of the Gender and Public Relations as well as Advertising Units at TUDARCo. As an academician, her expertise extends to conducting training and research consultancies for a diverse array of institutions, including Gender Links, MISA-TAN, TAMWA, PRST, Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), Women Aid and Criminal Justice Organization (WACJ), Eastern Africa Sub-Regional Support Initiative (EASSI), Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), UNESCO, and SIKIKA.

Mary Kafyome's educational journey began at Rugambwa Girls Secondary School. She then pursued her Advanced Diploma in Journalism and a Master's Degree in Mass Communication at St. Augustine University of Tanzania. Further enhancing her credentials, she earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Dar es Salaam.

During her professional journey, she served as a public relations officer with the Kolping Society of Tanzania and later took on the role of managing editor at Kiongozi Newspaper. Notably, she has been a mentor to numerous journalists, particularly in the area of gender reporting.

Ms. Kafyome's skill set is multifaceted, including public speaking, writing, event moderation, and rapporteuring. Her impressive background underscores her dedication to advancing the field of mass communication, particularly within the domain of public relations.
